           Political Campaign

Steve Hiatt secured the services of FORTHGEAR to help him brand his first political race for Kaysville City Council, then parlay that momentum into a successful run for Kaysville City Mayor a few years later. Knowing that Kaysville is very politically active, which would mean several opponents and Primary Race elections, Hiatt decided that a more professional “look and feel” for his campaign was mandatory.

The Challenge
Create a “brand,” or instantly recognizable image/slogan for Steve Hiatt’s Kaysville City Council race. Hiatt knew that most people would learn about his campaign through very visual means such as yard signs, posters, brochures, etc., so creating an effective brand was essential. His brand needed to be different enough to “cut through the clutter” of the other candidates, but also reflect the conservative “hometown” values of Kaysville, Utah residents.

The Solution
It was decided that the Kaysville City clock tower would be the perfect icon to build upon for Hiatt’s campaign. It gave his look a “hometown” feel, while reflecting the progress that Hiatt felt the city, settled in 1850, needed. The highly recognizable icon was an immediate hit; residents remembered the image and the tradition and progress that it represented. Hiatt stood for a Kaysville full of opportunity for the future, while respecting long-admired community values.

The Result
As a virtual unknown prior to his run for City Council, Hiatt handily won his seat through hard work and a well thought out and executed campaign. Capitalizing on his proven leadership skills, Hiatt decided to update the same brand when he ran for Kaysville City Mayor in 2009. Residents immediately connected his prior campaign with his current leadership. Hiatt handily won the Primary Election against several opponents, then won the mayoral race with a high percentage of votes.
